Secret ears | 2011
Performance documentation, single Chanel video, 6:10
An artist sells her ears. She whispers her secret to every customer, who buys one of her ears. They should eat it and keep the secret by themselves.
Secret Ears is a performance in which the artist sells replicas of her own ears, cast in edible jelly. Upon purchase, she brings her lips close to the buyer's ear and whispers a personal secret. By eating the jelly ear, the buyer absorbs and carries that secret within them.
The exchange of an edible body part for money probes the relationship between secrecy, intimacy, and physical proximity. The moment of whispering transforms a crowded public space into a fleeting private one — a temporary closeness in which emotions and inner life pass between two people.
