Slapping Butter on Bread | 2013

Slapping Butter on Bread translates the English idiom of the same name into a bodily performance. The audience slaps the performer, who then retrieves butter from inside her body. As she spreads it on bread and eats, she recounts through a sequence of words how physical violence leaves its mark on the psychological — and how that mark persists.
